Funeral Celebrant in Petersfield and East Hampshire
Petersfield sits among close-knit villages and rural communities where individual lives are often connected to family, landscape and local tradition. I help families create a ceremony that respects those connections while remaining honest to the person being remembered.

I live close to Petersfield and know the Hampshire–West Sussex area well. It is a part of the country with its own quiet character: a market town surrounded by villages, farms, woodland and the South Downs, where families may have remained rooted for generations or arrived more recently and made the area home.
I support families in Petersfield, Sheet, Steep, Buriton, East Meon, West Meon, Liss, Liphook, South Harting and nearby communities. I understand that a funeral in a village or rural setting can feel different from one in a large town. Local relationships may be closely interwoven, and the place itself can be an important part of the person’s story.

Traditional in feeling, personal in substance
A family may want a service that feels dignified and traditional without choosing a wholly religious ceremony. That is entirely possible. The ceremony can follow a familiar structure, with an opening welcome, music, readings, a eulogy, time for reflection and a formal closing. Selected prayers, hymns or a blessing can be included where they have meaning, alongside personal words and stories.
I lead non-religious, Christian, spiritual and blended ceremonies. You do not have to decide which label applies before we speak. We can begin with the person: what they believed, your family values and the emotions you want those attending to leave with. From there, I help you find the right balance of tradition, faith and personal tribute.
The ceremony might take place at a crematorium, cemetery or form part of a natural burial, memorial gathering or occasion at a private venue. In the South Downs area, some families may consider an outdoor or woodland farewell where the chosen setting permits it. I will shape and lead the ceremony; the family and funeral director can confirm venue availability, permissions and practical arrangements.
Listening before writing
If you choose me as your celebrant, we arrange a discovery meeting in person or online. It is time for you and, if you wish, close relatives or friends to talk about the person who has died: their background, work, relationships, interests, opinions, humour and the everyday details that made them the unique person they were.
I listen for the themes and stories that give a life its shape. Important dates and milestones matter, but so do the phrases they used, the habits everyone remembers and the moments that reveal character. These details allow me to write a eulogy that is authentic and truthful.
You will be able to review the draft, correct details and add anything that should be included. If a relative wishes to write or deliver their own contribution, I can help them prepare and make sure it sits comfortably within the ceremony.
Preparing the ceremony and supporting you on the day
Together we decide the order of ceremony, music, readings, poems, religious elements and personal contributions. I then bring these parts into a complete service with a natural pace and clear transitions. I liaise with the funeral director about the order and timing, while keeping the family’s wishes central.
On the day, I arrive early, check the arrangements and welcome those gathering. I lead the ceremony calmly and support family members or friends who are speaking. If emotion makes it difficult for someone to continue, I can step in and deliver their words on their behalf.
For a later gathering, I can also plan and lead a memorial service or celebration of life. More information about the different forms a ceremony can take is available on the personalised funeral ceremonies page.
Petersfield and East Hampshire funeral celebrant FAQs
Which communities around Petersfield do you cover?
I support families in Petersfield, Sheet, Steep, Buriton, East Meon, West Meon, Liss, Liphook, South Harting and nearby communities across East Hampshire and the Hampshire–West Sussex border.
Can a celebrant-led funeral still feel traditional?
Yes. A ceremony can have a familiar, dignified structure and include established readings, hymns or prayers without being a wholly religious service. We can retain the traditions that matter and make the rest personal.
Can you lead an outdoor or woodland farewell?
Where the chosen location permits it, a ceremony may take place outdoors, at a natural-burial setting or in woodland. The family and funeral director should confirm the venue arrangements, access and any practical requirements.
Do we have to know exactly what kind of ceremony we want?
No. The first conversation and discovery meeting are there to help you consider the tone, structure, words and music. I will explain the choices clearly and help you decide what feels appropriate.
Can a memorial be held at a private venue?
Yes, subject to the venue owner’s agreement and practical arrangements. Memorial services and celebrations of life offer more freedom over the date, setting and length than a time-limited crematorium service.
